VISIT TO THE HEADQUARTERS OF THE HYDROGEN FOUNDATION ARAGÓN
As part of the RENMAD Hidrogeno 2025 experience, on March 14 we will visit the headquarters of the Foundation for the Development of New Hydrogen Technologies in Aragon. This facility is a leading research center dedicated to advancing hydrogen-related technologies.
The FHa covers the entire hydrogen value chain—production, management, and efficient use—while utilizing primary energy sourced from renewables. The facility, housed in a 1,200 m² building with offices, laboratories, and a workshop, serves as an experimental testbed for hydrogen technologies. It is integrated within a microgrid powered by intermittent renewable sources and is accessible to researchers and companies in the sector.
The workshop is a unique facility in Europe for working with large hydrogen equipment, featuring an 8.5 m height, ATEX safety measures, gas detection systems, ventilation equipment, and more.

The building is part of the Hydrogen and Renewable Energy Technological Infrastructure (ITHER), designed and developed by FHa. This infrastructure includes:
- A 635 kW wind farm with three different wind turbines
- A 100 kW photovoltaic solar installation featuring seven distinct technologies
- A 250 kW non-commercial AEL system
- Comprehensive energy management systems, grid interconnection, and hydrogen storage capabilities: 4,000 L at 35 bar (11 kg) and 900 L (18x50L) at 350 bar (22 kg)
- Hydrogen fuel cell subsystems for end-use applications
The facility is further complemented by a hydrogen refueling station for H2 vehicles, capable of dispensing hydrogen at 200 bar and 350 bar for light vehicles, buses, forklifts, and other applications. For internal needs, two light vehicles are available: a Hyundai Nexo and a Renault Kangoo ZE H2.
Additionally, the facility features a 250 kW AEL test bench, a 25 kW stack test bench, an area for biogas experimentation, and various electrolyzers with technologies including 15 kW AEM, 5 kW PEM, and 48 kW AEL.
Adjacent to the main building, there is a 62 kW solar installation. Originally disconnected from the grid as part of the European ELY4OFF project for off-grid hydrogen production, this installation has been connected to the building in self-consumption mode since 2023.
