The development of renewable hydrogen is gaining momentum in Europe thanks to regulatory measures, but the market is still in its early stages. The current landscape for Spanish producers is characterised by gas price volatility and recent geopolitical shocks, which could enhance the competitiveness of green hydrogen and its derivatives compared to fossil fuel alternatives, whilst European institutional backing reinforces its strategic role for the future.
Spain, thanks to its renewable capacity and competitive electricity costs, is positioning itself as a key production hub. However, significant challenges remain: regulatory uncertainty, difficulty in securing demand and cost pressures. Furthermore, given the current limitations on transporting hydrogen at scale, the focus remains on developing the local market and on derivatives that are more easily exportable.
Against this backdrop, the 6th edition of RENMAD HIDROGENO will bring together the sector’s key players in Spain to share practical experiences on how to develop projects rapidly, optimise costs, secure financing and identify real demand opportunities.
We are developing a programme that will address all the uncertainties facing the sector. Key topics to be included in 2026 include:
- Understand how RED III, RFNBO, CBAM and the transition to low-carbon hydrogen affect costs, project design and investment decision-making in Spain and Europe
- Understand which sectors are willing to pay the green premium and the key conditions for long-term contracts
- Assess the impact of gas price volatility, import dependency and the reconfiguration of energy chains on the competitiveness and scalability of renewable hydrogen
- Explore improvements in electrolyser efficiency, manages the variability of renewables, reduces operating costs and increases the competitiveness of projects
- Reflect on Europe’s positioning relative to other markets, identifying strategic priorities to consolidate a robust, scalable hydrogen industry capable of global leadership by 2030
