RENMAD RENEWABLE GASES 2025

PREMIERE EDITION FOR ITALY’S RENEWABLE GASES EVENT

JULY 2-3 2025, BOLOGNA

How to scale up biomethane and clean hydrogen production in Italy

After the success of both RENMAD H2 Italia 2024 and RENMAD Biometano Italia 2024, we are thrilled to present RENMAD Renewable Gases 2025 (July 2-3, 2025, Bologna), our flagship event on the sectors of green H2 and Biomethane in Italy and Europe.

Italy is on the verge of a renewable gas revolution, with biomethane and green hydrogen playing pivotal roles in the nation’s energy transition. RENMAD Renewable Gases 2025 offers a unique platform to explore these dynamic sectors, foster innovation, and unlock investment opportunities.

Biomethane: A Growing Powerhouse

Biomethane, upgraded biogas with the quality of natural gas, is revolutionizing Italy’s energy landscape. By 2026, Italy is set to produce 4 bcm of biomethane annually, building on its 2.3 bcm output in 2021, which comprised 3.3% of the country’s gas supply.

The government’s €4.5 billion biomethane support scheme and existing infrastructure, such as over 1,000 CNG stations, underline Italy’s readiness to harness biomethane in transport and other sectors. Linking biomethane production with agriculture, the agri-food industry, and local digestate application further amplifies its potential to reduce natural gas dependency while boosting sustainability.

Hydrogen: A Vision for the Future

Hydrogen is emerging as a cornerstone of Italy’s decarbonization strategy. With bold targets set in Italy’s Hydrogen Roadmap and Strategy, the country is aiming for 2% hydrogen penetration and 5 GW of electrolysis capacity by 2030 and 20% hydrogen penetration by 2050.

The government’s focus includes integrating hydrogen in “hard-to-abate” industrial sectors, heavy-duty transport, and non-electrified railroads. Major projects like the South H2 Corridor aim to connect North African hydrogen imports with Austria and Germany, potentially accounting for 40% of Europe’s hydrogen imports.

Supported by the EU Hydrogen and Gas Decarbonisation Package and funded through the Recovery and Resilience Plan, initiatives like hydrogen valleys underscore Italy’s ambition to lead Europe’s renewable gas transition.
